Hire a canoe on the River Severn and enjoy a picnic or pub lunch along the way...

Updated: May 22

Hiring a canoe on the River Severn is a wonderful way to enjoy a day out with friends and family in the great outdoors. If you're looking for a leisurely paddle ranging from 4-6 hours (with lunch along the way), start your canoe trip in Bridgnorth and canoe down to Arley, Shropshire (around 4 hours with a lunch stop) or Bewdley, Worcestershire, which takes around 6 hours, with a lunch stop.

Relax and enjoy a picnic on the banks of the River Severn...

There are some lovely picnic spots along the way and we provide a barrel in your canoe to store your food & drink. There's nothing quite as relaxing as pulling up on a little secluded beach area on the side of the river, getting the picnic blanket out and tucking into some much deserved picnic treats! We love a good picnic, yum, yum!

Or you can enjoy a pub lunch during your canoe trip...

Another favourite way to enjoy lunch on our River Severn canoe trips is to stop at a pub along the way.

When canoeing from Bridgnorth to Arley, a good half way point is The Unicorn, Hampton Loade. It normally takes around 2 hours to paddle from Bridgnorth to either of these pubs, making them both ideal for a lunch stop en route to Arley.

If you're canoeing to Bewdley, you may wish to paddle down river a bit further before stopping for lunch in which case you could stop in Arley and enjoy lunch at the Arley Tearoom (which has outdoor seating and riverside views) or The Harbour. which has a large beer garden. We recommend calling all of these eateries & booking in advance to ensure you can get a table.

Places to eat & drink along the River Severn (between Bridgnorth & Bewdley)

If you're finishing your canoe trip in Bewdley then we recommend the following pub for food & drink at the end of your journey.

The Mug House is conveniently located next to the River Severn just a hop and a skip from where you'll leave your canoe. This wonderful pub serves locally sourced food and has tables overlooking the river as well as a covered back garden space that feels like you're in the Mediterranean. You can view the pub menu here- https://www.mughousebewdley.co.uk/restaurant/main-menu/

How about a 90 minute kayak trip in Kinver, near Stourbridge?

If you would like a shorter, easier trip that involves a pub then check out River Severn Canoe's kayak trips at The Vine Inn, Kinver. These start and finish at the pub which serves woodfired pizzas in their pretty canalside garden as well as other great pub food. What a way to spend a day!

However you choose to dine during your River Severn canoe or kayak trip, you can be assured of the perfect day out!
